Master in Landscape Architecture

Landscape architects use design and ecology to plan our external environments. Therefore, they form an essential part in our experience of living, in city squares, neighborhoods, urban forests, parks, streets, and all green infrastructure. Landscape architecture is also a profession that combines both art and science in one integrated design process. It is the profession that designs, plans and manages the shape and function of our land. Landscape architects deal with places such as parks, residential developments, all arts of campuses, gardens, commercial centers, resorts, corporate and institutional centers and waterfront developments… etc. Besides, the appreciation for historic landscapes and cultural resources enables landscape architects to undertake an essential role in preservation planning projects for local, regional and national historic sites and areas.

The objectives of the “Master in Landscape Architecture” program is to enable students to engage with the community in projects that focus on design, planning and improving the ecological and social aspects of the urban environment, with emphasis on sustainable outdoor environments, contemporary landscape design methods and application. The main three primary objectives of the program, including:

  • Offer the program graduates an intensive solid educational foundation through both theoretical, interdisciplinary studio and practical application.
  • Prepare graduates with the critical thinking skills, applications and tools needed to plan, prepare and produce both independent and meaningful research, that empower students to become leaders in research in private and public sectors.
  • Provide the program graduates with ethics and life-long professional development practice that allow them to improve the urban environment and life standers for current and future generations.

The “Master in Landscape Architecture” program is a design-led teaching and learning program that enable the students to progress towards their career, depending on integrating both the theoretical background and practical application side-by-side.
Upon graduation, graduates of the program of “Master in Landscape Architecture” will be able to:

  1. Create landscape architecture designs that meet aesthetic and technical requirements, using sufficient knowledge of design history, design theory, ecology, plant materials, criticism, sustainability, resiliency, stewardship health, safety, welfare.
  2. Identify, formulate, and solve complex landscape architecture design problems by applying the fundamentals of design processes and methodology, through using creative, innovative and flexible thinking and developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills to anticipate and respond to new situations.
  3. Apply landscape architecture design processes to produce effective solutions that meet specific needs including global, cultural, social, economic, environmental, ethical, and other aspects in a manner that is appropriate to specialization and that achieves principles and contexts of sustainable design and development.
  4. Plan and supervise the implementation of landscape architecture projects.
  5. Develop and conduct appropriate experiments and simulations, analyzing and interpreting data, evaluating results, and using statistical analyzes/modelling and objective engineering judgment to extract conclusions.
